Game Preview: Dead Rising

The name Capcom is synonymous with the word Zombie and the genre of Survival Horror games. Capcom's latest installment in their Zombie legacy is not Resident Evil 5, but their new title Dead Rising. However from what I have seen in trailers, and what I have played in the demo, Dead Rising plays nothing like Resident Evil at all. Usally Capcom's Resident Evil plays like an RPG with managing stats and items. Which may be more complexed, and ideal for the more involved gamer, who is in to the genre. Dead Rising plays more like a fast pased hack and slash survivor game, better suited for the casual gamer. Dead Rising features quick inventory changing using the right and left bumper buttons. Unlike Resident Evil, which required you to hit the pause button to choose a item. One innovative thing about Dead Rising is that, anything and everything is a weapon. Here are a couple of examples; benches, CDs, dishes, 2x4s, baseball bats, frying pans, knives, and just about everything that is not attached to the floor. Guns are available, but they are not as effective as the mele weapons.
You can expect a full review on Dead Rising as soon as I am able to play the full version game.

Weekly Review: Xbox Live Arcade

Microsoft's Xbox 360 has had overwelming sucess so far, and the Xbox Live Arcade has only added to it. The current catolouge of the Arcade features 24 titles, with four more on the way. These titles vary from a collection of old coin-op arcade games, such as Gauntlet, Robotron: 2084, and Frogger. To some new games such as, Bejeweled, Hexic HD, and Zuma. Microsoft also allowed independent developers, such as Garage Games to publish their title and smash hit on the Arcade, Marble Blast Ultra. These XBL Arcade titles are purchased and downloaded directly off the XBL Marketplace. This eliminates the need for a disk, which was the case with the first Xbox. Many of these titles include online multi-player, which increases the play life of these short titles. Each arcade game features achivements, which is the new way of tracking your progress in games, on the Xbox 360. Many of these games are quite enjoyable, and allow a gamer to take a break from the routine of playing regular games, and to kick back with friends or alone in an Xbox Live Arcade experience.

Overall Score: 8.5 out of 10
XBL Arcade offers a variety of titles, both for the casual and hardcore gamer. However some titles can be finished in a day. This annoyes me, because I wasted around $6, for a game that I could complete in a couple of hours. Overall XBL Arcade is great, except for some little problems.
